How can I cancel my geico car insurance?

I pay for my geico car insurance every six months because I save some money instead of paying monthly.
Here is a thing I am going to out of US for 3 months and I do not need insure my car however I already paid for the 6 months.
Can I cancel my car insurance and get the rest of money back?
Do they have any freezing method for these situations?
If I cancel my car insurance, will they charge me some money?
How do they calculate this?

Yes you can cancel your policy, by notifying them in writing. You do NOT get all the money back – there’s a short rate cancellation charge, AND a cancellation fee when allowed by the state. The short rate is about a month’s premium. The cancellation fee varies by state, but is typically $50.

Also, if you have 3 months with no insurance, you’ll be considered high risk when you get back, and you’ll pay A LOT more for your car insurance then.

I’d say, talk to your agent, but you ARE your own agent with Geico, and they’re not going to help you out. But if you have a LOAN on your car, your lender will have a fit if you cancel, and penalize you heavily – and might repo the car. And if you don’t, you’re probably better off dropping all but the bare minimum coverages, to keep the policy active.

Where can I get good rental car insurance?

I don’t have a car so I have no car insurance. Occasionally I rent a car, but I always get screwed with the rental company’s high insurance premiums. Are there any insurance companies that provide insurance on a short term basis. I have a good driving record.

No one will do it on a short term basis, but a named-nonowner policy runs about $150 a year. If you cancel it early, you don’t get any money back.

My son leaves Ireland tomorrow Sat 17th Nov to fly to San Diego. He has rented a car to drive to Seattle – everything appears to be arranged. But I want to check he has adequate car insurance that is needed/required? He is over 25 years and has normal Travel Insurance.

Many credit card companies will cover insurance requirements if you use their credit card to rent the car. However, your son should have checked with his credit card carrier before he left. Once he gets to the counter in the U.S. it will not be practical to check. And since he’s already left Ireland (since today is Sunday 11/18) that probably won’t be helpful information for your son. However, manybe someone else reading this will be helped by this information.

Once your son is here he’ll be pressured to sign up for every bit of insurance he can buy, whether he needs it or not. Rental car companies make tons of money this way.

We are planning on buying a new car soon and trading in the old one. How does insurance work? I’d like to shop around for the cheapest deal but that isn’t possible if I don’t know what car we are getting yet. Also I have only just renewed my car insurance this year. 2. You will lose the benefit of the short term policy adding to your NCB and it may make it difficult to prove NCB to a new insurer as you do not have the renewal for the one you wish to cancel yet.

3. Most people will simply change their existing insurer.

I’m on a time crunch to get into an apartment, and I’m trying to move in with my boyfriend. My parents are concerned that having any kind of roommate, boyfriend or not, will make our car insurance premiums go up (because he could potentially use the car) and that their home owner’s insurance won’t cover my belongings under the renter’s insurance rider we’ve previously used (simply because I have a roommate).

This is usually included with the payment plan for your rental car. Most car rental places are required to have car insurance for their rentals because THEY own the vehicle. So basically auto insurance works like this: If you OWN the vehicle you are responsible to have auto insurance. If you want a tag on a car you have to have auto insurance FIRST. So if the car you rent has a tag on it already, then it is insured through that car rental company. If you have to put a tag on the car (which is unusual) you have to get your own auto insurance. The DMV will tell you this. Just try to get a car tag without insurance.

I have just gotten a new job and I said I havent been in a car accident, but I did twice. Are they gonna find out about it when they add me in their car insurance?

If they run a Clue and DMV report you bet they will find it, if it was reported to either.

If your willing to take the chance that it was not reported and your willing to risk that your new jobs HR person along that companies insurance carrier wont send it through undewriting to verify information you have givin then your really diluding yourself. You need to be honest about this. The companies insurance carriers will not set the rate the company has to pay for you to drive a company vechical by the information you gave them. They will set the rate by what they discover in underwriting. Hopefully this new company will find your honesty with them refreshing and you wont start off on a bad note with them.
